Go vegetarian if you have compassion
Many people choose vegetarianism due to ethical reasons--believing that, in addition to being unnecessary for human nutrition, killing animals for food is cruel to animals. The proof for their convictions can be found in the deplorable "factory farm" conditions under which animals are kept before they are slaughtered. Every year millions upon millions of animals are systematically raised and killed under these cruel conditions only to supply a taste and chewing sensation that we acquired in childhood. That luxurious filet mignon and "juicy T-bone" are in reality pieces of muscle tissue, fat, and blood taken from the corpse of an animal that has undergone untold horrors in its brief miserable life. Many people shun meat simply because they find such wasteful cruelty ethically unacceptable, especially in light of the greater benefits of a plant-based diet.
